Alista Mafileo
Alista is a proud Samoan and Tongan student from South Auckland and the eldest in his family. A Year 12 student at De La Salle College, he has his sights set on a future in science, business, or engineering fields, which he hopes will allow him to build a meaningful career and give back to his community.
A dedicated academic, Alista uses his school’s academic portfolio programme to set goals and track his progress. He believes in holding himself to high standards and delivering quality results - values that continue to shape his approach to learning and leadership.
Leadership and service are core to Alista’s identity. He’s an active member of his cohort’s leadership team and regularly takes part in school-led fundraising efforts, including volunteering for Daffodil Day. These experiences have helped him grow in confidence and improve his communication skills.
With aspirations of being the first in his family to attend university, Alista sees the First Foundation Scholarship as a critical stepping stone. He is excited about the opportunity to gain a mentor and industry experience, both of which he sees as vital to building a successful and sustainable career. Alista is deeply motivated to make the most of every opportunity, not only to support his parents, who both work full-time, but to pave the way for future generations in his family and community.
