On Friday 22 May the NZ Tech community should've been getting their hair done, donning their glad rags, polishing their shoes and flocking to Wellington's TSB Arena (or tuning in via livestream) to celebrate the winners of the 2020 NZ Hi-Tech Awards.
However, the past few weeks have been anything but normal for many companies and clearly, there was no way we could proceed with the event as intended.
As an industry, we can take the lead in bouncing back from the challenges of Covid-19 by celebrating our successes, supporting one another and demonstrating that our industry can and will lead New Zealand into better times... BUT when the time is right. When many companies are struggling to stay afloat and maintain some form of business normality, even moving to an online only event right now feels premature.
We're not giving up and the show, or shows (be them physical or virtual as the case may turn out to be) will go on. A number of alternative options for announcing this year's award winners are being evaluated and we are looking at a late August date for this.
Health and wellbeing are of paramount importance so the format will depend on Government regulations, timeframes and what feels like the right thing to do as an industry in the current climate. We welcome your input/ideas and thoughts. If you want to reach out to us please email info@hitech.org.nz.
