This Award celebrates the company that is selected for the PricewaterhouseCoopers Supreme Award for 2007. The winner is selected from all entries received, on behalf of companies in one or more categories.

Criteria

The winning company is, in the opinion of the judges, the most deserving overall to be recognised as the 2007 PricewaterhouseCoopers Supreme Award for the New Zealand Hi-Tech Company of the Year.

The winning company will have performed outstandingly well on the international stage in the 12 months preceding the closing date for entries, and is likely to exhibit a high level of professionalism, quality, innovation and differentiation across a range of business and technical disciplines.

Entry is automatic provided at least one company category is entered, no further entry form needs to be completed.

 
 

Corporate Award

Avnet Corporate Award

This Award celebrates the success of a New Zealand domiciled company that has attained maturity and sustained growth in the high tech sector. Entrants are expected to show above average financial performance and substantial market presence in New Zealand and overseas.

Self or Nomination. In the case of nomination, the entry will be submitted to the company for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Describe the cornerstone elements that have resulted in the company’s success over the past 5 years
  • Show that growth has been sustained and describe how this has been achieved
  • Describe how the differentiation and effectiveness of its brand has been built - especially internationally
  • Show how innovation is stimulated and converted into market value
  • Describe the correlation to success that governance has provided as the company has grown
  • Describe its community contribution and how the company is a good corporate citizen
 
 

Innovation Award

Enatel Innovation Award

This Award celebrates a high tech company that has successfully introduced an exciting new product or service to market. The technology used by the product or service must offer significant competitive advantages to the user and be shown to be unique or strongly differentiated from the competition. Entrants are expected to show how this product or service positions the company for sustainable future growth and business success.

Entry By:

Self or Nomination. In the case of nomination, the entry will be submitted to the company for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Describe the product or service, technology, and target market. Analyse the competitive advantage of your product with specific reference to existing or potential competitors
  • Provide evidence that the product or service is a result of new technology or a new application of an existing technology that has been developed within the last two years
  • Describe how the success of the product or service has impacted on the company, and describe how it may affect the company's position in the future
  • Describe why your company should receive this Award
 
 

Young Achiever Award

Endace Young Achiever Award

This Award celebrates an employee (age 30 or less as at 3 November 2007) who has made an outstanding contribution to the success of a high tech company. It is expected that colleagues and business associates of the young person, who they view as an exceptional talent, will nominate him/her as an entrant for this award.

Entry By:

Nomination only and if not nominated by the nominee's employer, the entry will be submitted to the nominee's employer for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Summarise the skills and value that this young achiever has brought to their employer's organisation
  • Provide evidence of the impact this person has made on the company
  • Describe how this person has identified him/herself as a future leader in the high tech sector, ie. in aspiring to excel through the development or application of skills and/or an innovative approach
  • Briefly discuss the differences that make this person stand out as compared to others of a similar age
  • Explain how this person is a worthy winner
 
 

Emerging Company Award

IRL Emerging Company Award

This Award celebrates the business that has successfully made the transition from a small business with a ‘good idea’ to one that has a sound financial position and strong growth prospects.

Entry By:

Self or Nomination. In the case of nomination, the entry will be submitted to the company for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entrant will:

  • Describe the ideas, plans, or strategies that have made the most positive impact on your business and how these ideas, plans, or strategies were executed
  • Identify and analyse your key businesses strengths and competitive advantages, and describe how you have maximised these
  • Provide evidence of your commitment to delivering quality products or services, customer satisfaction and repeat business, and adhering to best business practice within your company
  • Provide evidence that your product or service has matured from a clever idea into steady growth and a sustainable future
  • Project the situation that your company will be in five years from now and describe how you intend to achieve this
 
 

Entrepreneur Award

NZX Entrepreneur Award

This award recognises the contribution of an individual entrepreneur, who through their vision, personal energy, and business acumen, has succeeded in growing a successful company or group of companies from start-up or early stage to international success.

Self or Nomination. In the case of nomination, the entry will be submitted to the nominee for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Identify the qualities and attributes that define you/the nominee as entrepreneurial
  • Provide evidence of significant entrepreneurial activities over time
  • Describe how the application of your/the nominee’s entrepreneurial capabilities identified and successfully captured at least one innovative high tech business opportunity through a venture in which you/the nominee were/was the key driving force
  • Profile the performance of one or more of your/the nominee’s ventures in terms of market development, positioning in relation to its competitors, the key strategies that were employed to deliver sustainable growth in revenue and shareholder value
  • Identify how you/the nominee have/has built an innovative and entrepreneurial corporate culture within a venture
 
 

Deal Award

This award celebrates the high tech company that has secured an exciting and substantial deal which positions it for strong future growth.

Entry By:

Self or Nomination. In the case of nomination, the entry will be submitted to the company for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Describe the deal, and provide evidence that your success was the result of a well-planned and executed strategy
  • Describe the impact of the deal on the company and the effect it will have on the company's position in the future
  • Describe at least one major challenge that you overcame to complete this deal and show how you did this
  • Obtain references from external parties (maximum of 3) commenting on the calibre of the deal from an impartial informed market perspective, in sufficient detail to support the deal

This Award recognises an exceptional high tech company leader who will be acknowledged by their peers as having made a profound and positive impact on the company that they lead.

  • Summarise the experience, skills, and values that make your leader exceptional

K One W One High Growth Award

This Award celebrates the company that has best seized the opportunity to capture its market by growing its sales spectacularly. It recognises a company with outstanding strategic focus that has been highly responsive to market opportunity, and has developed its production, delivery, and servicing capabilities to fully leverage its market position and achieve exceptional growth.

Entry By:

Self or Nomination. In the case of nomination, the entry will be submitted to the company for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Demonstrate that your company has experienced high growth over the last two years. Include details of growth area/s and discuss impact on revenue, profit, and staffing
  • Outline your company's business development strategy, showing that the growth was the result of a planned and executed strategy and not just good luck
  • Describe your company’s market position and explain how this was leveraged to achieve growth
  • Discuss the implications of future growth on the company and how the company has addressed, or will address, these issues
  • Describe why your company should receive this Award
 
 

PR/Marketing Campaign Award

This Award recognises the company that is selected for the PR/Marketing Campaign Award.

The winning campaign is, in the opinion of the judges, the most visible, innovative and successful PR/Marketing Campaign for a technology product/service based in the New Zealand or being launched into the domestic or global markets.

Entry By:

The client or the service provider (e.g. marketing or brand consultants, or PR, or advertising agencies).

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Show creativity, contain a clear message and reinforce core brand values
  • Evidence a degree of success in a defined market, with accountable results for the client in the growth of their product/service or recognition of their brand
 
 

Professional Advisor Award

This category recognises an individual or firm who has shown commitment and measurable success in providing professional advice or services to New Zealand high tech companies over a sustained period of time.

Entrants must have provided more than just the core advice or services; they should also show that they have been actively partnering to support and guide the business in fulfilling their objectives.

Lawyers, accountants, investors, intellectual property advisors, contract manufacturers, product designers, business consultants, graphic designers, PR/advertising agencies, bankers, customs agents, data centre providers are examples of professional advisors. (Check with to see if you qualify.

Entry By:

Self or Nomination. In the case of nomination, the entry will be submitted to the nominee for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Outline your current high tech portfolio with details of top clients, both New Zealand and international and with weighting given to scale and growth rates of clients
  • Show quality of partnerships with New Zealand technology companies made during 2006/7, with weighting given to measurable success that has occurred in 2007
  • Describe how you have contributed to the success of New Zealand technology companies during 2006/7
  • Provide a description of the support given to a management team or teams in your portfolio. Reference how you have supported the management team(s) of your client(s) in achieving personal and corporate goals
  • Describe and or provide evidence of commercial impact on clients' bottom line results - revenue, profit, market entry/penetration
 
 

Journalist Award

Fronde Journalist Award

This Award recognises the contribution of a New Zealand based journalist who has elevated and enhanced the profile of our high tech industries through successful and factual reporting.

Entry By:

Self or Nomination. If not nominated by the nominee’s employer, the entry will be submitted to the nominee for verification and acceptance of nomination.

 

Criteria

The winning entry will:

  • Prove that the submitted item/s (published, or broadcast between 1st August 2006 and 31st August 2007) can be considered to be factually accurate, are written in an easily understood manner, are timely and well balanced
  • Describe how the items demonstrate a sound understanding of the high tech sector and the opportunities and challenges specific to the sector
  • Describe how the items communicate key concepts clearly, and demonstrate a good understanding of the technology or application at issue
  • Show that the submitted media is of a highly professional presentation standard, and each item carries full bibliographic information
  • Explain why you or your nominee should receive this Award
